It is not easy for most of these alumni individuals to come to Guwahati and maintain a close bond with their alma mater. To facilitate a closer interaction and to advise and counsel the University administration on ways to improve, contribute and build a still more vibrant 21st century institution, the University is contemplating to hold an alumni meet in London during February 2016. It will be only too prudent to bring together those who kept the flag of this institution high, under one roof to have a healthy, meaningful and successful intellectual exchange to help this institution with their tremendous insight, knowledge and skill.I must acknowledge two persons Dr. Jayanta Biswa Sarma and Dr. Nripen Barkataky who have been nominated as coordinators for Europe Chapter of the Alumni association of this University for their initiative and efforts for the proposed meet. I am also delighted to mention that a 14 member strong group of bright and meritorious teachers will accompany the undersigned to London for this meet. I am touched by the passion shown by the coordinators and accompanying teachers for a journey of this institution for excellence. Gauhati University administration has decided to have an international wing of Gauhati University Alumni Association in the name and style of Gauhati University Overseas Alumni Association (GUOAA) to bring in its alumni across the globe under one umbrella in general and the U.K in particular.Dr Suresh Nath, Registrar of the University conveyed this decision and urged Dr Nripen Barkataky and Dr Jayanta B Sarma to act as the coordinators of the Europe chapter of GUOAA and help set it up as as a charitable organisation. This overseas alumni association is expected to operate from the UK for the entire European region. This model of overseas alumni association may also be applied by others in opening up new chapters of the GUOAA in other parts of the world. Once the connectivity is established, registered members of GUOAA would finally be the members of Gauhati University Alumni Association subject to fulfillment of a set of conditions that are yet to be finalised.
